antidepressants as prescribed by their GP; (c) to be randomized to
either treatment group. The self-hypnosis intervention was based on
Integrated Mental Training, an audio-based program developed in
Sweden in the 1970s for sport and peak performance by Lars Eric
Uneståhl (Dobbin, 2006), and the components of our 12-week inter-
vention are outlined in Figure 1.
Protocol.
Patients who agreed to have their details passed onto the
study team were referred by fax from their GP to the research nurse and
